"And I believe that the best buy in public health today must be a
combination of regular physical exercise and a healthy diet." -Julie Bishop

Finding time for any kind of exercise is for most a difficult task. Twenty first century life styles don’t leave a lot of time for exercise routines, especially cardio ones. Joining a gym or attending a fitness class involves travel time, ready time before and after and of course the time to do the exercise. One simple way to get around all this extra added activity is to incorporate cycling into our lives as a mean of transport. This doesn’t mean it’s time to sell the car and buy a helmet. It just means using a bike to get from A to B again when weather and conditions are appropriate. How often do you jump in the car a drive to the convenience store for to pick up some milk or what not. How many times do you take the car to the park or to visit a close by friend. Use a bicycle instead. The more you do this the more fit you will get and the more often you will want to do it. The next step up is to incorporate cycling into a daily or weekly routine. If your work place is too far to cycle, try attaching it to your vehicle with a bike rack, driving an alternate route to work and parking where it is free and easy and then cycling in and out from that point. Since cycling is very quick, especially in the city so you will lose very little time using it as a supplemental means of transportation. The best thing about cycling though is it is just plain fun. |
