Exercise – Why It’s Good for You

Exercise – Why It’s Good for You

Exercise--here comes that word again.  When you start thinking about exercising, your heart starts racing and you start thinking of all the reasons why you just don't have time for exercise.  You know it's good for you, but what does it really do for you?

For starters, exercise helps to improve your memory, balance and flexibility.  Plus it helps to improve your bone strength and psychological health, not to mention that it speeds up your reaction times and vastly improves the overall quality of life.  That sounds great right?  Sure, but motivating yourself to actually set a routine for exercising can be hard.

Motivating yourself for exercising on a regular basis is difficult even for the most disciplined person, so going to a gym to exercise with someone else, such as with your spouse, significant other, or friend is most beneficial.  Exercising with someone else is not only a good social outlet, but also will alleviate feelings of loneliness and stress.

Exercise programs don't need to be hard and strenuous.  That can be de-motivating over the long-term and harder to stick with a program if it is too intense all the time.  Outline your goals for exercising, such as losing weight or increasing your range of motion due to arthritis-whatever your goals, you will alleviate stress, build your immune system and strengthen your muscles.

Mix and match the different types of exercises you engage in, such as weights are cardio one day and a two-mile walk with a friend the next day.  Alternate the types of exercises you do so you don't get bored which leads to de-motivation and ultimately no exercising whatsoever.

Whatever type of exercising you choose to engage in, ensure that the program is designed for you and is in line with your capabilities.  If you have suffered an injury, ensure to discuss what you should and should be not doing.  Your ultimate goal is to feel good which results in looking good, not injuring or re-injuring your body.
