How to Get Yourself Back Into Shape

There are many reasons why someone would need to get back into shape.  Perhaps you just had a baby, or you had an injury that has prevented you from working out, or maybe your job has gotten in the way of you effectively managing your time to schedule in some good exercise.  Whatever the reason, there are a few different ways in which to get yourself back into shape.

  1. Establish and write down some goals for yourself, such as the amount of weight you want to be able to lift in a month, or inches you are determined to lose.  Regardless of your goals, ensure that you do not start out too fast or “overdo” it as you may either injure yourself, or just lose the motivation to keep going.
  2. Choose exercise that you will enjoy.  If you like walking, then either go to the gym and walk the treadmill, or get out into your neighborhood.  Of course, you could do both, for a change of scenery.  Along with walking, implement some time doing weights as that will help with toning your muscles as well.  It is important to keep in mind that you need to like to do the exercising routine you are doing—if you don’t then you won’t stick with it.
  3. Don’t expect instant results.  The last thing you need to stress yourself out about is that you’re not losing the weight or getting into shape as quick as you think you ought to.  However, with perseverance and consistency, you will see the results and be proud of what you’ve accomplished.  Just remember to keep up the exercise to keep your shape.
  4. Choosing good food.  You’ve started an exercise program, but the change doesn’t start and end there—you need to also change your eating habits.  While you are increasing your exercise level, reduce your caloric intake and choose foods that will help you with your efforts, such as fresh fruit and vegetables.  There are many vitamins contained in these foods that will help you with your overall health, not just for getting into shape.

The secret to getting back into shape is perseverance, determination and time.  It may take you a little longer to get into shape, but as long as you start with building core strength first, the rest of your goals will follow.
