How Important are My Eating Habits?

You Are What You Eat...

Good eating habits are very important not just for staying fit, but also for your overall health.  If you have kids, then eating balanced meals are extremely important for them as well.  There are a few ways in which to change your dietary eating habits, not just for you but also for your kids.

  • Eat a variety of food in moderation.  Our bodies require numerous vitamins and minerals in order to function at its highest level-ensuring that you prepare balanced meals complete with all the major food groups will be a tremendous help in improving your eating habits.

  • Eat your fruits and vegetables.  These are the food items that are most often reduced but are one of the most important in your diet.  They don't have to eaten raw--there many different ways to prepare fruits and vegetables that are not high in fat and still taste good.  Just don't overcook your vegetables as you can cook out the good nutrients.

  • Eat in moderation.  Forget what your mom always told you about eating everything you piled on your plate-even if your eyes are WAY bigger than your stomach, eating slower will help you to not overeat.  When you're full, stop eating.  You can always refrigerate the leftovers.

  • Eat regularly.  You're not a breakfast person and when lunch rolls around you are famished and try to eat both meals at once.  This is a very bad idea.  Even though you don't feel like eating first thing in the morning, pack a healthy snack such as cottage cheese to eat in the mid-morning timeframe so when it's time for lunch, you are not eating out of control. Nutritious snacks are definitely a good idea to curb hunger in between meals.

  • Don't make sudden changes.  Changing your eating habits to eating healthier is a great idea, but does not have to be done overnight.  If you crave something that is higher in fat during one meal, select other foods that will be lower in fat the next meal or with that meal.  Plus if you change your eating habits too quickly, you are more likely to not stick with the change.

Food is a way to fuel your body-eating in moderation with anything will help your overall eating habits and health tremendously.
