Pilates – A Great All-Around Exercise

Trendy But Good, Pilates The New Old Exercise

Pilates has been around for 70 years, but has just become a huge passion for some within the past few years.  You’ve heard of it, but what exactly is it?   Pilates is basically stretching synchronized with breathing, helping to stretch and strengthen muscles simultaneously.  The end result is a longer, leaner body.

If you stay true to the exercise plan recommended, then you should see the difference in 20 sessions, but have a whole new body in 30 sessions.  Pilates is designed to tone up the torso, the exercises are designed to reach the deeper abdominal muscles, which is the core of the muscles.

Pilates also helps dancers to move more gracefully, evoking better posture and fluidity.  The best part of this exercise regimen is that it does not cost a fortune to participate.  Of course, you can take classes at the gym or hire a personal instructor, but there are plenty of videos available that will cost a lot less and produce the same results.

There is some equipment that you can get to help aid in your Pilates exercise program.  The different equipment used for Pilates are the reformer, pedipull, Cadillac, barrel, and the chair.  With each of the apparatus, the repetitions are low, but the concentration is high.  Plus each piece of equipment is good to use for a number of the exercises and for nearly all of the different parts of the body.

Similar to yoga, Pilates engages both your mind and your body.  The results you experience will be seen not only on the outside, but also the inside.  The best thing about Pilates is that these exercises are for anyone, at any age.  The way in which the exercises are designed helps to prevent injury, such as for dancers and athletes.  Pilates is a great exercise program for anyone, anytime.
