Quick Way to Get In Shape

Getting in shape quickly

There are a few different things that you can do to help yourself get into shape, but the timing will all depend on you.

You already have limited time—together with kids, career, social activities, etc., how can you get into shape quickly?  Unfortunately, there is no magic exercise or pill to take that will get you into shape quickly—this will take time and dedication to getting into shape.

  • Look at your schedule.  Sit down and determine where you can schedule your workout time.  There is always time to exercise—it may mean that you watch your favorite program at the gym rather than on the couch.

  • Don’t just look to the gym to get into shape.  There are numerous ways in which to help get exercise without physically going to the gym all the time.  For instance, park your car the furthest away from the grocery store or mall entrance, or take the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator.

  • Change your eating habits.  Even if you start working out at the gym on a regular basis, or parking your car further away in the parking lot, if you don’t change your eating habits, you won’t get into shape.  Eat balanced meals with all the major food groups.  If you must have a snack, choose celery and a small glass of non-fat milk, or even a handful of peanuts.  Don’t’ forget to increase your water consumption—most people don’t drink enough water and when they think they’re hungry, they’re actually thirsty.

  • Grocery shopping.  The grocery store is a fantastic way to either help you or set you back on your trek to getting into shape.  The best thing to do is to write out a list prior to going to the store and stick to the list.  Problems occur when we deviate from the list, by buying a snack for on the way home, or binge shopping when you’re hungry.  If those tempting foods are not in your cupboards, then you are less likely to eat them, or miss them.

  • Document your goals.  You have committed to getting into shape. One of the ways to help you keep on track is to memorialize your goals.  Don’t just write them down in one place, make copies and place them in your car, your gym bag, your bathroom—wherever you will be reminded of your goals.
What are you waiting for?  Now is the time!
