"Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body,
it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity." -John F. Kennedy

Stay Motivated to Eat Right

Focusing on Fitness Can Help You Stay Motivated to Eat Right

Food is your passion, but you know that you need to focus on fitness for your health.  How can you focus on fitness to help you stay motivated to eating right?  While this may seem a daunting task, there is hope-you can shift your focus from the temptations of food to focusing on fitness and eating right.

  1. Start small.  A common misconception is that when you start an exercise program you must dedicate all of your extra time to that activity.  That is a great way to quickly de-motivate your desire to get into shape-start small.  Begin by walking around your neighborhood, or at the gym for a half an hour.  The key is to increase your activity level, not going full steam ahead when you first start out.

  2. Take time to review what you eat.  Engaging in an exercise program will only leave you frustrated because you're not getting into shape fast enough.  Of course your goals may be too high, but the real source may be because you have not shifted your eating habits.  Instead of having "just one more handful of M&M's", grab a banana or apple.  By doing that, you are shifting your habits to eating healthier.  Definitely reward yourself, but don't go overboard so you are left feeling guilty and losing motivation

  3. Feed your body.  Another common mistake that people do is to starve their bodies.  This is not only unhealthy it doesn't give you the energy to exercise, or energy to do anything else.  Food is fuel for your body, don't neglect it.  When you start missing meals, you may lose a little bit of weight, but not in the way that you need to in order to become fit.  You also lose energy and motivation which is necessary for long-term changes to occur.

Focusing on fitness can definitely help you to stay motivated to eating right-nourish your body with good food and it will reward you with feeling and looking better.  Recognize your weaknesses for food that will counteract your hard work-the sooner you know your strengths and weaknesses, the easier the shift will be for you.
