It's Never Too Late to Get In Shape...
If you want to get into better physical condition it is time to stop saying, "I used to be in shape"! While you may be saying something that is true, the statement also tells yourself that you aren't in shape now, which could be having a negative impact on you by keeping you from improving your overall fitness.
There are many things that factor into your overall level of fitness. Dietary habits and nutrition level, activity and work schedule, as well as exercise habits all impact the shape you are currently. It may be that you are much busier now than previously in your life. While things may be more complicated but that doesn't mean you can't be in shape.
Change what you're saying to, "I am working on improving my overall fitness" and then start making small changes that are improvements helping you to get back into shape. Some of the little things you can do are:
-
Start Packing a Lunch - This can be one of the easiest and healthiest changes you can make. Include fruits, vegetables, and healthy sources of protein without excessive fats. Make sure to include things you like so the transition isn't as painful.
-
Get Plenty of Sleep - Most people do not get enough sleep. There are differing opinions about how much sleep is the right amount but you need to figure out what's right for you. It may be 6 hours, it may be 8 hours. Pay attention to your body and your alertness during the day, and you will learn what is best.
-
Drink More Water - Most people don't drink enough water, plain and simple. Increase the amount you drink--6-8 regular glasses is a good goal to shoot for--3-4 glasses is a minimum you need to function properly.
Start an Exercise Program - This can be as simple as walking ever day during lunch or a workout involving weights and cardio but the bottom line is get your body moving, get some exercise every single day!
