Most of us will gravitate toward cardio vascular exercises or fitness routines when we think of trying to lose weight. However, just burning calories through exercise is not always the best way to lose weight, especially if you want to keep it off. If quick weight loss is what you are after, perhaps for next weeks visit to the beach in a bikini, then there are a number of exercise that give you a total body workout, burn the most calories and potentially will provide the most weight loss. On the other hand if you don’t want to risk doing all that work and then putting the pounds back on there is more to consider when choosing the best exercises for weight loss. Lets face it, pretty much all of us were not magically made over weight. We got that way in one way or another. In most cases it took a while, a few years for some and a few decades for other. Reversing this is not something one can generally do in a very short time. Gaining weight has to do with what we eat, our mental state and the amount of activity we do. Losing weight is the same. The best exercises for losing weight are the ones that include cardio and muscle mass building and toning. Don’t worry you are not going to accidentally look like a body builder, that takes years of dedication and controlled diet. It also potentially requires that you change up some of what you are eating as well as how much you are eating. Combine cardio style exercise with weight bearing exercise for an efficient way to burn calories and build muscle. This can be done separate or combined. For example you can swim and then do push ups and sit ups. Or you can run stairs with ankle weights. Doing weight bearing exercises while doing cardio exercise is a lot tougher and requires less time to burn more calories. This is great for those who are living a busy life style and can only find 30 minutes 3 or 4 times a week to workout. Here are a couple of suggestions for combined weight and cardio fat burning intense weight loss exercises. For all these do, rest and repeat 3 or 4 time across 30 minutes. Adjust so you are not doing too much cardio and yet can workout for the full 30 minutes. - Exercise bike turned up to a high resistance so your legs burn after a short period of time. - Climbing stairs or using a stair machine with ankle weights and carrying dumbbells. Do alternate curls as you climb the stairs. - Kick boxing workout video with weighted ankles and wrists, pause the video during resting periods. Throw in some push ups and sit ups at full pace during the workout if it is too mild. On top of all this make sure you change your intake to a lower fat and more complex carb diet. You will need carbs to get good workouts. Protein alone will not suffice. High protein and complex carbohydrates with plenty of water along with fruits and veggies will give you energy and provide all the materials your body needs to build muscle and lose fat. Complex carbs are in whole grains and whole wheat foods. Chicken and fish and non fat dairy are great sources of healthy low fat protein. |
