The Best Exercises to Flatten Your Tummy

Flatten Your Stomach

In one sense the best exercises to flatten your tummy are all exercises! There is something you need to know about the human body for that statement to make sense. Working out one area of your body will not melt away fat from that area. It will build muscle, however in order to see that muscle you will need to lose the fat too. For guys or girls to have a 6 pack tummy, their total body fat will need to be low enough for the definition of the muscles to show.

Since the human body stores fat all over in various proportions, it makes sense that any exercise will help toward losing that fat (all over) and eventually allowing you to become more defined in your tummy and for that matter everywhere else as well. In other words you can do all the sit-ups, crunches and ab exercises you want and no one will see the difference until you lower your total body fat. Doing lots of tummy exercises will make it stronger and this will help in some case to alleviate lower back problems and improve posture but if you want everyone else to notice your abs, other measures will need to be taken.

A good number of people decide they want to have a flat stomach and so start a abdominal targeted routine. They build their ab muscles but don’t see any results because it is hidden under a layer or two or three of fat. This fat will not go away just because your ab muscles get bigger or more toned. In order to lose this fat most people will have to change their diet.

Theoretically if you did enormous amounts of exercise but still ate the same amount of food each day as you did before you started the exercises you would lose weight. Even if you just did lots abdominal exercise and never ate more total  food calories each day, eventually you would lose weight and see that 6 pack. This could take a very long time though. There is a much more efficient way.

Include cardio into your fitness routine and even more importantly lower your fat intake and boost your protein and complex carbohydrates. There are plenty of good low fat diets out there but if you intend to exercise a lot and include cardio routines you will need some sort of carbohydrates to fuel the workouts. Doing cardio and eating low fat combined with targeted abdominal exercises will give you that flat tummy you are looking for. It is also healthier for your heart!
