Where Do I Start My Fitness Program?

Once you have made the decision to start an exercise program you have what seems like thousands of different options.  You can narrow the choices down to what works for you by answering a few simple questions:

  • What Kind of Physical Shape Am I in Right Now? Assess where you currently are as far as physical fitness goes.  The reason you will want to do this is that it is important you set realistic goals for yourself and not try to push yourself too hard or too fast.  If you are way, way out of shape starting your exercise program by walking 10-15 minutes a day may make more sense than a club membership and personal training sessions.

  • What Type of Exercise Are You Most Likely To Keep Doing?  When it comes to exercise, you need to find things that you like to do.  Do you prefer going solo or do you like classes such as aerobics or Pilates?  Knowing yourself and what you are most likely to stick with is important when you are getting ready to start an exercise program.

  • What Sort of Budget Do You Have For Working Out?  While this question might seem a little odd working out does cost money.  You need clothes, shoes, and perhaps a place to work out.  You may need day care or at least activities for the kids to do while you exercise.  The best decision may be for you to purchase a piece of equipment, which you will need to know what will best work for your household budget.

Once you have these three questions answered you can begin to put your exercise program in place.  The key to the success of your efforts will depend on your ability to regularly exercise and that will help you to improve your overall level of fitness.
