Is Fitness Really Necessary?
Why in the world do we need fitness anyway? Can’t we just live our lives and do what we do and not think about fitness and exercise? I think the answer to this question is, well… we don’t need fitness. We don’t need exercise and we don’t need diets. It really is all about choice and decisions. Life was no meant to be about quantity, but more so about quality. If exercise and fitness make you miserable then you probably shouldn’t do them. If being on a diet makes you miserable then stop dieting. Just know one thing, with every single decision, with every single choice comes consequences. Even deciding to not decide is a choice and has consequences (usually not so good ones either)
Many years or centuries ago we as a race worked out pretty much every day. Most people did some sort of physical labor for a job or for just basic survival. There were no preservatives or artificial sweeteners or diet pills and since food was not nearly as abundant most were not usually overweight. So people were not dying from obesity related illness or disease, they were just dying from other natural causes like rotten teeth!
Well along came modern technology and out the window our built in workout routine. So we ‘work’ all day but we don’t actually do anything with our bodies. We sit more than ever and eat more than ever. So we invented a thing called fitness. Fitness is suppose to make us better. It is suppose to make us happier. Well if you are exercising and dieting and you are miserable then something is wrong. This is where the concept of balance and moderation come into play.
If you are over weight and out of shape chances are you probably are noticing some not so great side effects, especially if you are getting on in age. Some light exercise and dieting can really make a positive difference to how you feel now and later. There is no need to go hard and fast and miserable. Life was meant to be enjoyed and at the same time it was meant to accomplish something too. So balance things out and try not to be the largest couch potato in the known universe but don’t let fitness run your world either.
